My inspiration to study the delicate craft of Hairpin work or crochet is from my Grandmother, whom taught me how to begin this wonderful technique for heirloom pieces. I was given a simple but very special to me, one of her Hairpins to learn the craft that was made for her by my Grandfather many years ago. My Grandmother Elva Shields who's family was from Norway was a very talented clothing designer. I still remember taking out of the cupboard my Mother's wedding dress that Grandmother had made. It was in the most beautiful lace & satin, exquisitely made. My Mother also is a very talented clothing designer & I often would as a child help her to finish some of her pieces. She is a very patient knitter of beautiful Fairisle & heavily patterned cardigans. I began at about 5 years old hand sewing dolls clothes, little did I know then that this would be the start of my handmade costumes & hatpins being sold all over the world.
